Keep up with me on Twitter! @blangblog

Hey there! This is a heads-up that, as you probably have seen, time has been tight lately, and I haven’t been keeping up with Haiku Tuesday as I should have. Rather than leave you totally high-and-dry, I will be using Twitter more actively to micro-blog about the things that interest me. I still encourage you [...]

Do you understand more Spanish than you speak? (or any other language)

There used to be a longer impromptu blog post here. Here’s a summary! My Spanish comprehension is better than my ability to start speaking from a cold start now. This is different from before. I’m still fluent. I think it’s because I’m in L.A., where I hear it more and speak it relatively more. I [...]

Foreign Language Oops – English – Sustenance with substance

Someone I know used the word substenance. I guess it’s sustenance, but with extra substance! It sounds pretty cool, actually – if I was really hungry, I would certainly want substantial sustenance. Who wants to add this to the English language? I’ve got another one to post and will post it soon.

Haiku “Tuesday” – Learning Mandarin Chinese

Five "mandarins."

So, since I’m learning Mandarin, I thought I’d write poetry about it…fitting for an Asian language, no? (And does anyone know if Asian is still politically correct? OK…my haiku quality must be dropping because people aren’t visiting Blang as much lately. Therefore, this week I am going to do a more traditional haiku.

The return of Haiku Tuesday

Good news! I’ve finally freed up some time and am going to start writing in Blang again. The first thing I want to bring back is Haiku Tuesday; people liked that. Time permitting, I’ll aim to post something related to fun language-learning (or language-learning insights I’ve gained over the years) at least once a week. [...]
